Many of our members participate in exhibitions outside the OGPC, both in the Ottawa-Gatineau region and beyond. We like to highlight some of these exciting shows.

Can anyone look at a simple garden crocus in full bloom and *not* think spring!? These prints show images inspired by flower illustrations as they first appeared in printed books in the 1500s in England. These are riso prints made with soy-based inks. Limited editions of 3 to 5 copies each.
The windows are a series of etchings made on copper plates using various etching techniques. Limited editions of 3 to 5 prints each. The images are drawings of my living space just before I moved to Ottawa last year.
In my current practice, I work with plant illustrations from ancient manuscripts and the first secular books printed in Europe starting in the late 1400s. Often, I juxtapose these early illustrations with my own hand-pulled prints, drawings and photos. I am exploring how this contrast between ancient and modern plant pictures captures the timeless, mysterious and often ambiguous relationships between plants and humans. All prints are for sale. Peut-on regarder un simple crocus de jardin en pleine floraison et ne pas penser au printemps ? Ces estampes présentent des images inspirées des illustrations de fleurs telles qu’elles apparaissaient pour la première fois dans les livres imprimés dans les années 1500 en Angleterre. Il s’agit de tirages riso réalisés avec des encres à base de soja. Éditions limitées de 3 à 5 exemplaires chacune.
Les fenêtres sont une série d’eaux-fortes réalisées sur des plaques de cuivre à l’aide de différentes techniques de gravure. Les éditions sont limitées à 3 ou 5 exemplaires chacune. Les images sont des dessins de mon espace de vie à Toronto juste avant que je déménage à Ottawa.
Dans ma pratique actuelle, je travaille avec des illustrations de plantes provenant de manuscrits anciens et des premiers livres non-religieux imprimés en Europe à partir de la fin des années 1400. Souvent, je juxtapose ces illustrations anciennes avec mes propres impressions, dessins et photos. J’explore la façon dont ce contraste entre les images de plantes anciennes et modernes capture les relations intemporelles, mystérieuses et souvent ambiguës entre les plantes et les humains. Mes principaux supports sont la gravure et l’installation/sculpture. Je suis né et j’ai grandi aux Pays-Bas et je vis maintenant à Ottawa, en Ontario.

Madeleine Rousseau, membre du CAGOG, présentera une exposition solo intitulée “Excursions” du 7 mars au 1er avril 2024 à Orléans ON.
Cette exposition se veut une excursion dans l’imaginaire de l’artiste avec des thématiques et des techniques d’art visuel variées qu’elle affectionne depuis des années en tant qu’artiste autodidacte. Rousseau interprète des sujets reliés à l’environnement, la nature, la littérature, le quotidien et l’abstraction avec les arts imprimés, les arts du livre, la calligraphie, les arts textiles et la peinture.
Madeleine Rousseau remercie le Mouvement d’implication francophone d’Orléans où se tiendra l’exposition, pour leur soutien.
OGPC Member Madeleine Rousseau will present a solo exhibition titled “Excursions” March 7 – April 1, 2024 in Orleans ON.
This exhibition is intended as an excursion into the artist’s imagination, with a variety of themes and visual art techniques that she has been pursuing for years as a self-taught artist. Rousseau interprets subjects related to the environment, nature, literature, everyday life and abstraction, using printmaking, book arts, calligraphy, textile arts and painting.

Now the 14 prints they created are on the road! The next stop for this exciting touring exhibit will be at the Centre d’action culturelle de la MCR de Papineau in Montebello.
The theme of the exhibit is interconnection, with each artist exploring different aspects of our interconnection to nature, the environment, our community, our history, and one another . The exhibit also includes a video that artfully documents the process of InterconneXion.
The Vernissage is Friday May 6, 2022 from 5 pm to 7pm. The show runs May 7th to July 3rd at the Centre d’action culturelle de la MCR de Papineau 548 Rue Notre Dame, Montebello, QC. The hours of operation are Wednesday thru Friday 10AM to 4:30 PM, Saturday 10AM to 5 PM and Sunday 1PM to 5PM. Please note masks mandates are still in place in Quebec (as of the creation of this post Apr 28).

Le thème de l’exposition est l’interconnexion, chaque artiste explorant différents aspects de notre
interconnexion avec la nature, l’environnement, notre communauté, notre histoire et les autres. L’exposition comprend également un vidéo qui documente artistiquement le processus d’InterconneXion.
Le vernissage aura lieu le vendredi 6 mai 2022 de 17 à 19 heures. L’exposition sera présentée du 7 mai au 3 juillet au Centre d’action culturelle de la MRC de Papineau 548 Rue Notre Dame, Montebello. Les heures d’ouverture : du mercredi au vendredi 10H à 16H30, le samedi 10H à 17H et le dimanche 13H à 17H. Veuillez noter que les mandats de masquage sont toujours en vigueur au Québec (en date du 28 avril).

Driven by biology and powerful narratives, humans have transformed and dominated Earth like no other species. This exhibition titled “It’s the Economy” examines, in the context of the Anthropocene, the paradigm of economic growth, mass production, and mass consumption.
Shirley Yik is an Ottawa artist whose practice includes printmaking, drawing and painting. Her work explores human-created systems in relations to the Anthropocene and our societal values. She holds a Diploma of Fine Arts from the Ottawa School of Art, Master degrees in Management Studies and Information Systems Science at Carleton University.
The artist gratefully acknowledges the support of the City of Ottawa and the Ontario Arts Council.
Admission is free. Mask, physical distancing and proof of vaccination are required.

The Vernissage is Friday June 11th, 2021. The show runs June 12th to July 11th. Please note masks are required indoors like all public places. Safety precautions will be in place and no more than 25 people will be allowed in the building at a time in accordance with local health authority rules.

Le vernissage aura lieu le vendredi 11 juin 2021. L’exposition se déroule du 12 juin au 11 juillet. Veuillez noter que les masques sont obligatoires à l’intérieur comme dans tous les lieux publics. Des mesures de sécurité seront mises en place et pas plus de 25 personnes ne seront autorisées dans le bâtiment à la fois, conformément aux règles des autorités sanitaires locales.
Don’t miss the chance to see two excellent exhibitions of prints at the Ottawa School of Art (on George Street in the Byward Market), with OGPC members featured in both!
The first, in the ground floor vitrines, features prints from an OGPC Print Exchange with a group of printmakers in Northern Ireland. The theme is “Home“, something which has had a significance so far in 2020 that was unforeseen at the time the prints were made and exchanged.
The second is the Biennial Ottawa International Mini Print exhibition, featuring a wonderful variety of printmaking techniques and subjects in the 355 prints, by 135 artists from 21 countries. All works are for sale (early Christmas shopping!). OGPC member Roger Sutcliffe has had a print accepted into the 7th Biennial FOOTPRINT International Competition 2020, to be held at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk, Connecticut, September 13 – November 22, 2020. Congratulations Roger!
“Spring” 1/1, 2020, is a multi-plate collagraph printed on Hahneműhle copper plate bright white 300 gsm paper.
The Ontario Mini Print Exhibition (TOMPE) opens in London, Ontario on July 29th, 2020 and runs until August 15th. At least four OGPC members have had work accepted by the jury (Madeleine Rousseau, Roger Sutcliffe, Laurence Finet and Susan Cartwright).
Update: Susan Cartwright was awarded an Honourable Mention for her linocut reduction print “Peanut II”!
Organizers have installed the show at Satellite Project Space gallery and will also be presenting it virtually online. The gallery is open Wednesday-Friday 2pm-7pm and Saturday 12pm-5pm. You are invited to visit the show in person or online. If you live out of town, the organizers request that you contact them to book a time to visit the gallery. This way you can visit at your desired time as only four people are allowed in the gallery at once. Masks are required in the gallery and there will be hand sanitizer available at the front door.
You are also invited to join the virtual opening reception for TOMPE2020 on Wednesday, August 5th at 7:00pm. Details on how to join the live event will be sent out closer to. Please spread the word!
